Olivia had a tree in her backyard that had absorbed a chain in its bark, and she shared a photo of it with her friend/poet Catharine Savage Brosman.  Later they  took a trip to England where they saw a man at a village fair with a group of chained owls, which were a distressing sight to them.  From photographs that Olivia took of both tree and owls, she created this painting, which Dr. Brosman used as a cover for a book of her poems entitled CHAINED TREE, CHAINED OWLS.  Within the collection are two poems about the chained tree and the chained owls.
